Prime Minister Andrew Holness has criticised Opposition Leader Mark Golding and members of the Opposition over their stance on salary increases for Members of Parliament and Cabinet ministers.
Speaking in Parliament, Holness accused the Opposition of inconsistency, noting that while they publicly objected to the salary increases, they did not decline the additional earnings. He further claimed that some Opposition members had inquired about their retroactive payments.
The Prime Minister also pointed to previous statements by the Opposition spokesman on finance, who had indicated no issue with the increases, contrasting this with later objections raised by the People&rsquo;s National Party leadership. Holness reiterated his own decision to forgo the salary increase, stating that the matter carries broader implications for current and future holders of the Office of the Prime Minister.
He added that the Government&rsquo;s actions have been endorsed by the Jamaican people, referencing the administration&rsquo;s renewed mandate following the September 3, 2025 general election.
Holness brought as a gift an Anti-badmind cap for the Opposition Leader to which the opposition responded by telling the the Prime Minister that he should be the one to wear it.&nbsp;
