Vendors in Downtown Kingston say after no prior notice their stalls were taken and disposed of by authorities.

They cried out to the government to have mercy on them during the pandemic as there is nowhere for them to go. Vendors say regardless of them being given the leeway to sell on the sidewalks, the police have been on a mission since the beginning of March to remove them.

Vendors admit to hiding their merchandise in odd places including tree tops to spare it from the hands of the authorities.

One of the sellers voiced that though there are regulations, measures should be put in place to facilitate them.

Delroy Williams, Mayor of the Kingston and St. Andrew Municipality says the vending zones will be marked over the weekend as a means of not overcrowding traffic flow.

He says the municipality has joined hands with the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) as a measure to maintain order.
