Construction has begun for a new homeless shelter on King’s Street in Downtown, Kingston. Some one hundred homeless persons currently housed at the Marie Atkins Shelter on Hanover Street, are to be transferred there.
Mayor of Kingston, Delroy Williams says there were financial challenges in executing the project. He says the local government’s committed to the project and the first phase should be completed in June.
Mayor Williams also sought to outline other challenges faced by the municipality.
The mayor’s reiterating appeals for the public to refrain from abusing the homeless adding that reports on abuse of the homeless have declined.
