It ha been a year of curfews and though the curfew times varied, it was never lifted.
The first curfew which initially went from April 1 to April 8, 2020 was imposed to stem the spread of the coronavirus which at the time had infected 36 people and killed 1.
A year on and tougher curfew measures are in place this time to manage the virus which by March 31 2021 had infected almost 40,000 Jamaicans and claimed the lives of nearly 600.
We asked some Portland residents how the daily curfew has impacted their lives in the past year.
Shelly-Ann who identified herself as a marketer says it has devastated her job.
Henroy Bernard who works at a hardware store says he’s encountered much inconvenience.
For carpenter Christopher Steele, the curfew has not caused much disruption.
Though it’s not clear when the curfew will be lifted, it is clear however that they will go on until the coronavirus health crisis ends.
