Police reported that at about 2:40 pm Sunday, June 27, 2021, four heavily armed men traveling in a grey Toyota Axio, exited the vehicle in the Dam Road Square in St. James and opened fire at men sitting at a shop and a car wash.
When the shooting subsided four men were left nursing gunshot wounds. Another man was reportedly chased and was shot at, but he escaped unharmed.
An off-duty female officer who lives in the area, responded to the incident, she was reportedly shot at by the men, before returning the gunfire.
The gunmen fled the scene in their car, but while heading into the direction of Montego Bay, they crashed into another car with six people on board, including two infants.
The gunmen again opened fire, this time at the car, injuring three people. None of the infants were harmed.
The gunmen then escaped on foot in the area.
All injured persons were rushed to the Cornwall Regional Hospital for treatment, and were said to be in stable condition.
Chairman of the Community Development Committee, Donald Culloughmarty says it is a challenge to weed out the perpetrators of these dangerous acts.
And on Monday about 8 am residents reportedly stumbled upon a headless body in a gully behind the Johns Hall Primary School, just meters away from where the shooting occurred…
The body had multiple bullet wounds; the severed head was found just about a mile away from the scene.
Investigations into both incidents are underway.
