A day after the country’s first flight from Switzerland into Montego Bay, the Tourism Ministry says the local tourism sector is set for take-off once more.
Starting Monday night, Jamaica is expected to welcome new flights by Switzerland-based carrier, Edelweiss, between that country and Montego Bay.
The Tourism Ministry pointed to a number of factors aiding the rebound including a series of what it describes as strategic meetings with key stakeholders across the globe; the development of robust health and safety protocols for the sector including the establishment of the tourism COVID-19 resilient corridors.
It notes the corridor has a very low average COVID-19 infection rate of 0.6%. It also highlighted the high vaccination rates in key source markets allowing for fewer travel restrictions and growing ease for travelers.
On Sunday the country also welcomed the return of non-stop flights by condor airlines between Frankfurt, Germany, and Montego Bay and non-stop flights between Toronto, Canada by Air Canada.
