Human trafficking is the recruitment, transporting, and harboring of an individual for the primary purpose of exploitation, such as prostitution, and within Jamaica children are among the group that is mostly affected.
Detective Inspector Kimeisha Gordon, Sub-Officer of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Unit at the The Counter Terrorism and Organised Crime Investigations Branch (CTOC), says apart from children, prostitution is also another vehicle that is a breeding ground for human trafficking, and since the start of this year cases of prostitution have increased.
Gordon says the ways people can protect themselves against being trafficked is to approach every interaction with caution,
Job opportunities should also be scrutinized many times when a job opportunity seems too good to be true it usually is.
