In an effort to help reduce youth unemployment the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development Desmond Mckenzie recently launched the Youth Summer Employment program. The programme, in its fifth year, will see an increase to six thousand participants from five thousand in the previous year.
Since the inception of the Youth Summer Employment Programme, YSEP, in 2017, more than 21,000 young people have been hired island-wide.
This year six thousand participants are to be engaged, which represents the largest body of individuals within the initiative. The programme will commence on August 9 and conclude by September 3, 2021.
Minister Mckenzie says YSEP workers, will be trained by the ministry of health and wellness to participate in the country’s COVID-19 response support to communities island-wide.
