The Western Regional Health Authority (WRHA), says the major increase in COVID-19 cases has resulted in two primary public hospitals in the Western region to exceed their capacity.
Acting Regional Director for Western Health Regional Authority (WRHA), St. Andrade Sinclair, the parishes of Westmoreland and Hanover have been seeing skyrocketing cases of COVID-19 in recent weeks. He also says occupancy levels have exceeded over 100% at the Savanna La-Mar Hospital. Meanwhile, the Noel James Hospital has already reached it is capacity.
Meanwhile, Mr. Sinclair points out that over the last few weeks, the occupancy levels at the Cornwall Regional Hospital have declined.
He also says though the challenges with COVID-19 have plagued the Western Region heavily, there has been an uptick with vaccinations as scores of persons from various sections of the Western Region have shown up for the jab. Mr. Sinclair says teachers in St. James will be able to receive their vaccine next Wednesday.
