For 281 years, long before Jamaica gained independence, the inhabitants and descendent’s of the Accompong Maroons have claimed sovereignty of the lands which they occupy, in what is known as Cockpit Country, however the Jamaican government appears to dispute the legal standing of the Maroons.
Alex Moore-Minott, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diplomacy for the State of Cockpit Country and Attorney- at-Law Bert Samuels, joined the CVM Live Panel Discussion to explore the Maroons claims to sovereignty and the threats to it.
