The CEO/Managing Director of the government-contracted Archer’s Funeral Home, in Spanish Town St. Catherine, Michael Archer has hit back at a family who claims their loved one’s face had decomposed and beyond recognition when they turned up for his autopsy over a week ago.

He also adds that he was not aware that the family had any concerns.  Michael Archer’s first argument in denying allegations of failing to take care of the body of 20-year-old Devarney Smith is that the body was properly stored from October 16 when he was killed to the day of his autopsy, November 18.

Charlene Dawkins claims she could not recognize her son, and there was a foul odour when she attended his autopsy on November 18. It was her brother who identified him by his teeth and nose, She says. Another relative laments the same concern, adds there was no hair left on her nephew’s head.

The mother and aunt of the deceased are bent on taking the matter to court.

“Anybody should go to court, it should definitely be me” – Archer, while sympathizing with the family says he’s more likely to take the initiative of taking the family to court.
