After a brief delay this week, the Health Ministry has launched its digital vaccination card initiative. Health Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton says the system is not only efficient but safe.
Jamaicans can now convert their physical vaccination card to digital ones. After being postponed on Monday due to technical glitches, the digitization of Jamaica’s COVID-19 vaccination card was officially launched on Thursday, December 23, 2021.
The system uses the (India-based) digital infrastructure for vaccination open credentialing (DIVOC) to manage data. In the coming weeks, users will be able to input their booster shot information into the system as well.
Corrections to or updates on the digital cards take 72 hours to verify. Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Lead consultant Shawn Bolton explains the time is needed to cross-check update requests.
Health Minister Tufton is reiterating that the cards are internationally accepted while assuring the system’s security. The minister says vaccination sites will accommodate the digitization of vaccination cards for those who are not technologically savvy.
