Attorney representing the embattled Acting Permanent Secretary in the Education Ministry, Peter Champagnie has confirmed that his client was interdicted on the eve of her return to the Education Ministry.
The Acting Permanent Secretary was sent on paid leave late last year following a major probe into 124 million dollars in unaccounted funds to the Joint Committee on Tertiary Education, (JCTE). The Queen’s Counsel says his client maintains she acted with integrity and will pursue legal measures should surcharges be executed against her.
Champagnie made the admission to CVM LIVE, Wednesday, the day that his client was to return from her paid leave since October last year.
Dr Grace Mclean was Chief Education Officer and acted in the capacity of permanent secretary in the Education Ministry up to the time the auditor general findings were tabled last year.
The audit revealed over 120 million dollars was unaccounted for that was authorised and sent to the joint committee on tertiary education, JCTE under the watchful eyes of the chief accounting officer.
Champagnie says Dr Mclean, has expressed disappointment with how the matter is being handled so far, given her remarkable public service. And having represented the country with distinction. He refrained from further commentary explaining that one has to respect the process.
