Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Desmond McKenzie, toured sections of Brown’s Town, in St. Ann on Friday. He spoke on the rehabilitative works being undertaken to develop the historic area.
The government he says will be spending in excess of $40-million dollars to rehabilitate and beautify sections of the town. The works are expected to be completed before the Easter holiday. A full face-lift is currently underway for one of the principal towns in St. Ann, brown’s town.
During a tour of the town Minister McKenzie notes that there is a lot to be done but the works are being undertaken in stages. The renovation of the market he says was completed last year but more is to be done. Minister McKenzie stressed the importance of sustainable development in rural parts of the island, saying the aim is to alleviate some of the hardships faced by people living in these communities. Member of Parliament for St. Ann north western, Krystal Lee while welcoming the face-lift of the town, says commitments were made and kept.
Minister McKenzie says in the coming weeks he will focus on projects in the corporate area.
