There are growing calls for peace from some international and local entities as the conflict in Ukraine intensifies. Some anticipate this to be the precursor to another world war but Political Commentator Sandre Rhoden says this conflict may not get to that point. With a background in international relations, Rhoden lends his thoughts on the Russian invasion into Ukraine. He says that while unfortunate, this conflict has been a long time coming. Putin claims that Russian troops sent into the region will act as “peacekeepers,” many think this is the beginning of a third world war, but Rhoden is not convinced.
As a small island state, Rhoden says Jamaica should anticipate the ripple effects from war tensions in Ukraine. Rhoden believes Putin’s methods to be outdated, citing diplomacy as a preferable way to hash out disagreements.
