Prominent attorney-at-law, Queen’s Counsel Valerie Neita Robertson is screaming long live the Privy Council after her ruling case was overturned on appeal to the council; she insists the council provides objective judgments which are needed and said that there is often bias in the local justice system.
Despite calls for Jamaica to sever ties with the queen and the Privy Council, Queen’s Council Valerie Neita Robertson is defending the UK-based final court of appeal as she says it upholds the objectivity that is often lacking in the local justice system.
Robertson was speaking out after her client, Lescene Edwards was acquitted of his life sentence on appeal to the Privy Council on Monday. She notes the judge who presided over this particular case failed to place all the materials from both sides on the jury. Instead, Neita Robertson says the case was summed up in an unfair manner.
