April 22, was observed as International Earth Day. Members of the Jamaica Environment Trust, JET held a cleanup operation along the Palisadoes strip in Kingston. Volunteers and members of JET were out as early as 8 am Saturday to clean up the beaches along the Palisadoes Strip in Kingston.
CEO of JET, Theresa Rodriguez-Moodie says the cleanup initiative is geared towards the collection of plastics. This she notes is recorded on a data base system. Mrs. Rodriguez-Moodie says while the beach cleanup may represent a short term solution, it’ is a valuable way of bringing attention to the problems of plastic pollution. She urges all Jamaicans to play their part in protecting the environment. Meanwhile, Minister without portfolio for Economic Growth and Job Creation Matthew Samuda says proper infrastructure is needed for waste disposal.
