A video showing an intense gun battle that has been making the rounds on social media did not happen in Jamaica. That’s according to the St. Elizabeth police. The police are urging people to refrain from spreading rumors reiterating it could create fear among residents. 

The St. Elizabeth police are confirming that no shooting took place in the parish on Friday. This reassurance follows the misconception that a video circulating on social media, sounding rapid gunfire, was shot in Santa Cruz in the parish recently, which has sparked fear among some residents. 

However, the commanding officer for St. Elizabeth, Superintendent Dwight Daley says no shooting or wounding has been reported. He says from his understanding, the shooting took place elsewhere or even outside of Jamaica. 

SP Daley says there was an uptick in robberies at the beginning of the year in the parish, however, he says the police have curtailed those incidents. He is however concerned about criminals migrating to the area and disturbing the peace. Watch the report:
