The Jamaica Fire Brigade’s Regional Headquarters has finally been opened, after three years of construction. The facility promises to bring improved services to Western Jamaica. Prime Minister Andrew Holness officially opened the Jamaica Fire Brigade (JFB) Area 4 Headquarters in Montego Bay, St. James on Friday. The facility is geared towards significantly improving the JFB’s services in St. James, Hanover, St. Elizabeth, Westmoreland, and Trelawny.
The five hundred- and eighty-million-dollar facility has been in the pipeline for approximately three years, and now has amenities including five bays for fire trucks, emergency vehicle bays, dormitories, an underground water tank, and a gymnasium. Speaking at the opening ceremony, Prime Minister Holness said the facility marks an important milestone for Jamaica.
Commissioner of the Jamaica Fire Brigade Stewart Beckford said the facility was well needed, as firefighters had been working in poor conditions for years. He anticipates the enhanced facility will be beneficial in several ways. Watch the full report:
