Prime Minister Andrew Holness, is insisting the National Housing Trust (NHT) is not a welfare institution. He says the NHT has a role to provide accessible housing to citizens, however it must be monitored. He asserts that the NHT has a duty to ensure that it can provide affordable housing solutions.
Holness however says it will not be used at a place to put the balance sheet at risk. Meanwhile, he notes that the government is developing modalities that will give citizens the option to acquire their homes, through a rent-to-own arrangement programme.
This move is expected to cushion housing demand, by finding different housing solutions for Jamaicans, particularly young adults. Watch the report below:
