After Seawind Key Investment Limited (SKIL), operator of the 700-room Secrets Resorts in Freeport, Montego Bay, faced objections to plans to construct a 281-room hotel. An environmental permit has been drafted to ensure residents’ rights are protected.
The National Environment and Planning Agency, NEPA, which has been working with SKIL, recommended the permit, and insisted on a mandatory consultation with residents in and around freeport. The says the decision to meet with the residents was in the spirit of transparency and good governance. The residents however remain concerned about beach access, parking and traffic, sewage services availability, and water supply.
The authorities granted the environmental permit and outlined planning approval to SKIL for the development of a new block of roads on the property.
SKIL is also agreeing to make some adjustments to the project.
