Jamaica’s unemployment rate fell drastically to a new record low of 6.2 percent in January 2022. According to the Statistical Institute of Jamaica (STATIN), Labour Force Survey for that month there was a 0.9 percentage point lower than the figure recorded in October 2021. Despite this downward trend there is an alarmingly high number of young people migrating to greener pastures. If young people continues to migrate, unemployment increase, and the birthrate decline, what does this mean for Jamaica in terms of development? Will vision 2030 be in jeopardy?
