Tuesday’s announcement by Member of Parliament, Lisa Hanna, to resign from representational politics, has left some members of the diaspora in shock. CVM LIVE spoke with one such stakeholder who is hoping the MP will reconsider.
Head of the Jamaica Diaspora crime intervention and prevention task force, Dr. Rupert Francis, says the resignation of Member of Parliament, Lisa Hanna, comes as a surprise to the Diaspora. This follows the shadow minister on foreign affairs and trade’s announcement on Tuesday, informing Opposition Leader Mark Golding, that she’ll not be a candidate in the next general election.
The St Ann South Eastern Member of Parliament has held the post for nearly four terms. Dr. Francis further underscores the importance of having women leaders. He’s hoping something can be done so that Hanna stays. He however says the diaspora’s main wish is to see a better future for the people of Jamaica.
