The National Housing Trust (NHT) has been partnering with the Government of Jamaica to relieve the tensions surrounding home ownership. Their most recent effort at providing quality housing, saw 31 minimum wage earners receiving keys to their new homes, which were heavily subsidized by the NHT.
Prime Minister Andrew Holness says the beneficiaries’ income fell between minimum wage and 30-thousand dollars per week. He says the NHT is focused on providing houses to Jamaicans regardless of their income bracket. Crowning it as a “targeted subsidy approach” Prime Minister Holness says the house costs have been subsidized by the NHT, to make them more affordable to Jamaicans. Holness also used the opportunity to address the issue of communities without unique geo-based postal addresses.
