Despite lingering criticism for teachers migrating for better opportunities, one education stakeholder remains firm in his support for teachers seeking the best possible opportunities.

Former president of the Jamaica Teachers Association Owen Speid says at this point in time, there is nothing that will hold Jamaican teachers back from migrating to better opportunities. Speid also adds that not only teachers benefit from the American system, their children as well. He notes the process of matriculating their children to higher learning is much smoother. He also highlights the issue of tax breaks. Speid says Jamaicans who continue to see life through the lens of politics must change their perspective. Talks surfaced recently about teachers having to hold down several jobs outside of their profession, to subsist abroad.
