Amid the ongoing violence in sections of Payneland, St Andrew, several stakeholders have joined forces to launch a football competition aimed at rebuilding unity and a sense of unity in the community. 

Senior Superintendent of police for the St. Andrew South Division Kirk Ricketts, says the police, the church and the business community are bent on providing a day of fun and excitement for the youth.

He notes the importance of sports as a unifier among warring groups. He says while the area is still experiencing violent outbreaks, the environment is calmer when compared to last year. He credits this to the stakeholder intervention.

Pastor Donna Pengelly says the church has played an active part by hosting motivational sessions with the youth. Managing director of the Sanmerna Foundation and Paper Products, Robert White says while there are plans to incorporate similar events for women, for now, the focus is on the males. Watch the report:
