Jamaica will now observe the day of mourning for Queen Elizabeth the second on Monday, September 19 and not Sunday, September 18 as previously announced. The update from Kings House, Friday afternoon.
In a media release, the office of the Governor-General says previous guidance would have indicated September 18 as the official day of mourning for Queen Elizabeth II.
However, Buckingham Palace has since advised that the official day of mourning should be on the day of the Queen’s state funeral on September 19.
And contrary to some expectations, the national day of mourning will not be observed as a public holiday.
Minister Morgan is also reminding the public that no celebratory activities should take place during the period of mourning from September 8 to 19. More details here:
