Members of the Manchester Municipal Corporation gathered recently to speak about the issue of violence against women and children. The councillors believe that this action carried out mostly by male partners is rooted in gender inequality, and should be approached on a multi-sectoral basis.
Oftentimes, women and children are the victims of domestic abuse who are silenced in the most tragic and gruesome ways. Members of the Manchester Municipal Corporation believe that discussion on the issue should not be stopped. Instead, groups and organizations must develop a means of addressing the issue.
Adding to this, the Councillor for the Porus Division in the parish, Claudia Morant Baker shares that tackling the issue must start from the home. Since the start of the year, there have been several incidents linked to domestic violence. This has resulted in a call from various organizations to create more safe places and spaces for women and their children.
