Just hours after residents of some flood-prone communities in May Pen, Clarendon were making preparations for the severe weather conditions that were to affect Jamaica, Meteorologists have discontinued the storm watch.
Residents are breathing a sigh of relief but simultaneously cementing the notion that “prevention is better than cure”.
The news comes after a day’s work of clearing drains, and battening windows.
Mayor of May Pen Winston Maragh told our news team earlier, he was worried the coat-line communities would experience another flood.
The Mayor, who is also Councillor for the Rocky Point Division urged reluctant fishermen to leave the cays.
Maragh also told residents about the hurricane shelters in the division, should they need them.
But it seems those shelters may not be necessary this time around, as tropical storm Ian changes its course.
