Motorists are being urged to avoid the Bog Walk Gorge in St Catherine following reports of rock fall during the rain. Acting Director General at the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM), Richard Thompson says despite the storm moving away Jamaicans can expect continued rainfall and flooding in some areas.
He is reminding persons to exercise caution where necessary given the Met Service’s recent flood watch and warnings up to Monday. Tropical Storm Ian continues to impact sections of the island despite the storm watch being discontinued. Even with the downpour expected well into Monday, ODPEM’s Richard Thompson says there were no major incidents or loss of life up to news time.
Some communities were without power and a few others experienced flooding. Thompson says there are reports of falling rocks in the vicinity of the Gorge in St Catherine and urges motorists, especially those heading to St Ann to avoid the gorge at this time. Watch the full report:
