National Security Minister Dr. Horace Chang is again bemoaning the massive economic blows dealt locally by crime. He made the statement while outlining that Jamaica needs strategic partnerships to reduce crime and violence, especially those gun-related.
The Minister made the assertion while speaking at the 24th staging of the meeting council for national security and law enforcement. He says crimes such as gun and human trafficking have the potential to dismantle any gains made by the nation to develop its sustainable development goals.
Dr. Chang says reinvigorated actions against those crimes are needed now more than ever as economic hardships, among others increase people’s vulnerability. He reiterates the need for more effort to deter gun trafficking in the Caribbean.
He stresses the importance of strategic partnerships to achieve the aforementioned, and thanks the United States for being one of those partners. The Minister’s remarks follow similar sentiments by Prime Minister (PM) Andrew Holness during his UN presentation recently. The PM challenged the United States to do more to help rid Jamaica of illegal guns. Watch the report:
