Dengue fever is a virus that has always been common in the Jamaican Aedes aegypti mosquito for several years.
There are fresh concerns, in the wake of recent flood rains, the threat of the virus, especially in eastern parishes is imminent.
Speaking with CVM Live, Acting Epidemiologist in the Ministry of Health Dr. Ardene Harris says Jamaica has always seen an increase of the virus in the cooler months of the year, September through to February.
She explains, however, to date the island has not recorded a significant number of cases. She notes though parishes are recording cases, it’s not an outbreak. She says the management of viruses is incumbent on citizens.
