One student in Central Kingston says he is determined to lift his mother and family out of poverty. The straight-a student says he is optimistic education will yield success despite the financial challenges.
Meet 10-year-old Jason St. Michael Stewart a grade five student who attends the Allman Town Primary School in Kingston. Stewart an extraordinary student performing at the top of his class aspires to become a soldier or a soccer player. Showing our news team his math book, one of his favorite subjects, he says he takes pride in his school work and practices self-discipline.
However, cognizant of his mother’s financial struggle, he tells CVM LIVE he wants to be in a position one day, to shift his family’s economic standing. His mother Terry-Ann Stewart says she would like to see her son go to higher heights. Stewart is open to anyone willing to provide any form of support. She notes the violence in their community is worrying. Stewart says she was once employed but made redundant due to a back injury.
She is not asking for a hand-out but rather an opportunity for her son to maximize his potential. Watch the report:
