An award ceremony in honour of scores of voluntary shelter managers in Clarendon has triggered a resounding appeal from stakeholders for more Jamaicans to get involved in community development and volunteerism.
Director General of the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management Richard Thompson, hailed their contribution to the displaced residents in the parish while urging more volunteers to get involved with the National Shelter Management Program. Similar sentiments were echoed by Disaster Risk Management Advocate, Dr. Barbara Carby, who praised acts of volunteerism locally. She was equally pleased to witness the youth who availed themselves as volunteer shelter managers. Dr Carby’s also encouraging more people to get involved in helping the vulnerable and less fortunate.
