The Opposition is again calling on the government to address the current transport woes island-wide. According to Opposition Spokesperson on Transport and Works Mikael Phillips, there have been announcements but no action to address the current ills in the transport system.
While lamenting that Jamaica deserves a modern and efficient transport system Phillips also says the transport sector is a large contributor to Jamaica’s productivity and gross domestic product.
Amidst anxiety and chaos with the implementation of the new road traffic act, opposition spokesperson on transport and works Mikael Phillips says the government has failed to provide solutions to issues in the sector; he believes that the transport systems is broken, in part due to the unwillingness of the government to recognize the interconnectedness and legitimacy of the business model.
