Addressing the current meteorological drought across the island, Minister with responsibility for Water Matthew Samuda announced the government’s investment in more capital infrastructure.
These he says will be done through plant construction and other projects. As minister without portfolio in the Ministry of Economic Growth and Job Creation Senator Matthew Samuda urges citizens to reduce their water usage, he says the government is also working to soften the drought’s impact.
In 2022 the National Water Commission (NWC) signed a contract for the development of a water Treatment Plant in Content, St. Catherine. Senator Samuda says the plant is expected to commence construction in July 2023, noting the benefits it will provide. Meanwhile, he mentions efforts being done through the non-revenue water program, which has been instrumental in reducing leaks and theft. Watch the report:
