Supreme Court Judge, Justice Leighton Pusey handed down the verdict to 52 year-old Robert Fowler in the Supreme Court on Thursday. Fowler dressed in a blue polo shirt and black shorts appeared nonchalant as he received his sentence. Justice Pusey began the sentencing at 30 years and narrowed down the ruling based on Fowler’s guilty plea on March 8. He also gave a 15 % percent discount and reduced the 2 years he was in police custody. His attorney Lyndel Wellesley made a plea for his client to be sentenced to at least 15 years. However, Justice Pusey highlighted the aggravating factors as reasons for the number of years given to Fowler.
The aggravating factors include the evidence, Fowler being the person of interest from the very beginning, his contradicting caution statement, and his attempts to cover up the murder. In the meantime, we sought a response from his attorney following the verdict. Khanice Jackson’s father, Roy Washington Jackson and stepmother Collette Anthony Jackson says they agree with the ruling of the crown, however, it still will not replace their daughter.
Jackson, a resident of Independence City in Portmore, St Catherine, vanished on March 24, 2021, after leaving home for work. Her body was found in a ditch on the Dyke Road in St Catherine two days later. Shortly after, Fowler, with whom she had traveled to work at times, was arrested and charged.
