Prostate enlargement (BPH) and prostate cancer are two distinct conditions which affects the prostate gland in men. Prostate enlargement is a non-cancerous enlargement of the prostate that can cause urinary symptoms as men age. If the prostate becomes enlarged one may experience sysmptoms such as weak urine flow, incomplete emptying of the bladder, and the need to urinate during the night. On the other hand, Prostate cancer, is a malignant tumor that develops in the prostate gland and can be asymptomatic in its early stages. Symptoms of prostate cancer may include: difficulty urinating, blood in the urine or semen, erectile dysfunction, pelvic or back pain and unexplained weight loss. Prostate cancer requires prompt diagnosis and treatment, while BPH is a benign condition that can impact urinary function. Integrative Oncologist, Dr. Andre Williams helped us to better understand these conditions and what to do.
