Group Demands the Removal Of LGBTQ+ Flag At US Embassy – Jamaica was regarded as one of the most homophobic countries in the world. In recent times, there has been some level of leniency and tolerance, but there still remains intense resistance to full acceptance. This is evident as the US Embassy, in honor of pride month, recently hoisted the pride flag on the property in Kingston, garnering outcries from different groups. Insisting in recent years there has been an increase in attempts to curb the Jamaican society into acceptance of the LGBTQ+ community, President of the Love March movement is calling for an immediate halt.
This after, the US embassy, again, in recognition of June as pride month, raised the pride flag largely associated with the non-conforming group. In response, the love march movement has pledged to flock to the embassy six days each week, to decry the hoisting, while lambasting the perceived symbolism behind the gesture, which challenges deeply ingrained societal norms.
