A staggering debt in excess of 100 million is crippling operations at the National Irrigation Commission. ‘We mean serious business’, that is the warning from the Director of Commercial Operations at the National Irrigation Commission, as the agency intensifies its collection and disconnection campaign. Wayne Barrett aims to recover over $100 million owed by farmers and other users who, until now, have benefited from the agency’s excessive leniency. Barrett says advisories have already been sent to customers. He adds if efforts are not made to settle the outstanding debt, then the matter will be escalated to the court. 

He further explains, with the government subsidizing 75 per cent of the operational costs, Customers must do their part in ensuring their 25 per cent is paid as is duly required. Watch the report:
