Dehydration occurs when you use or lose more fluid than you take in, and your body does not have enough water and other fluids to carry out its normal functions. If one does not replace lost fluids, then you will get dehydrated. So how can you identify when you are dehydrated? Thirst, however this is not always a reliable early indicator as many people, particularly older adults, do not feel thirsty until they are already dehydrated.The signs and symptoms of dehydration also may differ by age for infant or young child they may experience dry mouth and tongue, no tears when crying, no wet diapers for three hours, sunken eyes and cheek, sunken soft spot on top of skull and listlessness or irritability. Adults may experience, extreme thirst, less frequent urination, dark-colored urine, fatigue, dizziness and confusion. Hence, it is important to increase water intake during hot weather or when you are ill. Medical Doctor, Dr Je-Vaughn Wynter, stopped by to educate us about dehydration.
