The ‘Champions for Change’ campaign is being implemented by the National Family Planning Board (NFPB) as a public education tool to build awareness and promote the reduction of stigma and discrimination against persons living with and affected by HIV. HIV-related stigma and discrimination significantly impact the health, lives and well-being of people living with, affected by, or at risk of contracting HIV. In Jamaica, HIV-related stigma and discrimination often result in people not disclosing critical information to healthcare providers, being diagnosed late for HIV, not adhering to their treatment regimen, and not accessing helpful psychosocial support and other services. Director of Enabling Environment & Human Rights (EEHR) Unit – NFPB Arlene Temple Anderson and HIV Champion, Joan Stephens joined us to share more about the initiative.
