Fashion Designer Makedia Pryce Johnson uses her zeal and years of experience to inspire and train others in fashion design, construction and visual arts. This propelled her in the direction of becoming an educator, instructing young minds on how to appreciate, understand and produce the arts. Currently the Garment Construction Specialist at the Jamaica Business Development Corporation (JBDC), she supports Micro, Small & Medium-sized Enterprises (MSMEs) in the fashion industry, allowing her to provide technical guidance related to garment construction and other textile products using the Jadire style. The word Jadire is a combination of the words ‘Jamaica’ and the Yoruba word ‘’Adire’’ meaning ‘tie and dye’, an indigo-dyed cloth made in southwest Nigeria by Yoruba women using a variety of resist-dyeing techniques. Makeida joined us to share some of the pieces from their Jadire collection.
