In his first appearance before the Public Accounts Committee, (PAC) former permanent secretary in the Ministry of Education, Deanroy Bernard gave his account of events that took place while he was there.
Bernard, in an 18-page document, explains questionable financial transactions and conflict of interest including the hosting of parties as highlighted in the Auditor General’s Report.
Bernard once said that Jamaican laws should be upgraded to provide tough sanctions for public officials who mislead or lie to parliamentary committees.
Now that he is associated in a legal battle with the Government over his transfer from the Ministry of Education to the Ministry of Finance, said that he hopes the findings of the auditor general are adequately scrutinised to ensure that truth is unveiled and the responsible officers are identified.
