The 63 candidates representing the Peoples’ National Party (PNP) in the General Election were announced over the weekend.
Leading up to the declaration, President Dr. Peter Phillips made it known that his party is ready to contest the country’s eighteenth General Election.
General Secretary of the PNP, Julian Robinson, says the party will be targeting some of the seats they lost in the 2016 election where they won 29 of their 63 seats.
The Party has been leaning on the shortcomings of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP), whose administration has been slammed with numerous corruption accusations.
Robinson says the country’s economic health also signals it’s time for a change in government.
The coronavirus pandemic will not facilitate the usual campaigning strategies, where candidates conduct large rallies to secure new voters.
Robinson says they are capitalizing on other strategies that are aligned with the guidelines from the Health Ministry.
He says the PNP is confident that it is able to win on September 3, when Jamaicans go the polls.
