COVID-19 Fails to dampen voter spirits – The clear and present danger of COVID-19 did not stop the festivities of Nomination Day activities on Tuesday.
As we hear in this report supporters from the two main political parties were determined to create a carnival-like political atmosphere even with announced restrictions on gatherings.
These are not normal times. Party supporters had been put on alert that Tuesday would not be the typical Nomination Day exercise.
The Electoral Office of Jamaica (EOJ) had instituted several guidelines governing the day’s proceedings including restricting the number of persons allowed on to the nomination centre.
At a media briefing on Monday the JLP campaign team said the usual marches to the nomination centre were being discouraged but motorcades were allowed.
But nothing was stopping the party for some supporters on nomination day.
It would be no shock that supporters for the PNP candidate for west central St Andrew kept up the vibes outside the nomination centre at the New Testament church of God on Waltham Park Road in Kingston.
