Walls Collapse in Harbour View – The heavy downpour of rain on Sunday evening resulted in major flooding across the island and damage to property. Some residents living in Bayshore Park and Harbour Drive in Harbour View are appealing for assistance from their political representatives…as the heavy rains led to walls collapsing into a gully near their homes.
“It is over five years now we are suffering because of this makeshift gully that has been constructed behind out properties,” shared a resident of Harbour Drive, Ethel Smith.
Another resident, Derrick Henry explained that “First I hear a small sound like something crack and by the time I come downstairs to come outside to look I hear everything collapse.”
Derrick Henry has lived along Harbour Drive for years, says he lost a tank and solar batteries. Another resident lost over a hundred chickens as the coop was built on the wall- which collapsed.
“The foundation is taking its time slowly going because about two years we had the same incident but the wall was still here but other persons lost theirs. Now, it finally went,” said Sweelen
The matter has reportedly been shared with their political representatives and those from the Kingston and St Andrew Municipal Corporation.
“We have made several reports to different agencies and to date nothing has been done. The Member of Parliament for East Kingston and Port Royal, for East Rural St Andrew, came and they looked – and nothing has been done,” added Ethel Smith.
Residents, however, indicate that those matters should have been addressed years ago.
“This gully thing yah, years ago when them a build it, I tell them you can’t build a soak a way to make a gully with just stone pack pan one another because it going to mash up people house. That’s exactly what happens now,” explained Eric Bell, a Bayshore Park resident.
Residents are hoping the matter will be addressed before they lose their properties.
