oya Yaseka Johnson, a Jamaican-born international model, former gymnast, coach and founder of Prescription for Life, a program aimed to help coaches through mindfulness practices spoke at the opening of the National Training Centre on Slipe Road last Saturday, November 30th, 2019.
As the newly appointed VP, she said at the opening, “ In this role I will help to cultivate a culture and nurture a generation of youth who have a strong sense of community, self and purpose. The goal of our alignment is to establish and sustain Olympic teams that are consistently competitive on the world stage by 2032.“
She will be responsible for aligning Jamaica Amateur Gymnastics Association and its gymnasts with international brands to help fund them their competitions and training.
The National Training Centre is at the Jamaica School of Gymnastics on 1 Slipe Road and is fully decked out with new equipment for the students to practice. It houses a space where 100-150 students can train in various disciplines including cheerleading, tumbling and dance.
British-born gymnast Danusia Francis was also at the opening, and she will represent Jamaica in the Tokyo Olympics in 2020.
