A petition to increase the threshold on the importation of personal items from 50 USD to now 100 USD has already secured 80% of the signatures required to receive a response from the Prime Minister. It’s asking the government to increase the threshold on nontaxable personal goods bought online. Currently, personal items that are valued at 50 USD or less do not attract a customs fee. But according to the petition, there is a change in local consumption, liberalized spending, and adjusted travel patterns especially due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
