Doctors willing to receive vaccine education: With much talk and cynicism surrounding the COVID-19 vaccine, CVM Live spoke with the President of the Medical Doctors’ Association of Jamaica (JMDA) who spoke on the willingness of junior doctors to be vaccinated come 2021.
Two weeks ago, Health and Wellness Minister, Dr. Christopher Tufton announced in Parliament that the aim is to prioritize the vaccination of health workers and the elderly, who are among the most vulnerable, when vaccination begins in April 2021.
The reality of a COVID-19 vaccine has been treated with skepticism by members of the public.
But are medical doctors prepared to be vaccinated?
The President says the doctors are interested in having more educational sessions about the vaccine before receiving it.
This prompts another important question; what about doctors or other healthcare workers with underlying health conditions who may be allergic to components of the vaccine?
And for persons who may be worried about the vaccine being made mandatory, Dr. Fitz-Henley says as it stands, the association has not received any information from the Health Ministry stating that it will be.
